My organization habits changed when I became an adult

I recently got a new backpack, to join the ranks of my many other bags that I don’t like for one or two specific reasons.

The bags I currently own are at least two of:

  • Too big
  • Lacks style
  • Too tight
  • Too hard to get things in and out of it
  • Too few pockets

I clearly remember being a student and having no issues finding my phone, phone charger, data cable, portable video game, laptop or notebooks whatsoever, because I used to leave pretty much everything I owned on my backpack that I used daily.

Becoming an adult combined having my own car, remote work ( mostly home-office ) and moving out of my parent’s, made me not rely on my backpack that much, only when I’m traveling. If I need to carry more stuff than I can squeeze in my pockets, I just bring it to the car and leave it there for when I need to use it, phone charger is a good instance of that.

I tried to get a suitable backpack for my current needs for some years now, some that I can carry my laptop, portable gaming handhelds ( aka SteamDeck ), power bank, some chargers and cables and still have some extra space for a set of clothes for when I need to go for long distance travels and care to take a shower between airports. The hardest to find of the requirements is some bag that I can easily pull my laptop out and easily put it back in.

My current backpack is fairly good, I like the style of it, like the set of pockets, is slim and well built, but my laptop is a bit too big for me to pull it out and put back in with ease. If the main pocket is packed, whenever I pull my laptop out through the zipper on the back side, whatever is on the main pocket will squeeze the laptop compartment making it impossible for me to get my laptop back in without having to do some management on the main pocket again.

I also have an Amazon Basics backpack, that is big enough for me to easily get my laptop in and out, carry a set of clothes and even has a handle on the side for me to carry it like a suitcase, but it turns out to be too big and everything I put in the bag lies too loose on the inside, even my 16 inch MacBook Pro. Besides that it doesn’t have such good looks and for being too big it is not so comfortable to carry around on long distance travels. Works very well as a backpack+bag, if you care so much about carrying clothes along with your EDC stuff.

Browsing AliExpress for a new backpack that I could get in time for my work trip to Iceland, I found this Bange Backpack, which I even recommended to a friend before getting one, and his one arrived before I could even order mine. He made me jealous of his new good looking, well fitted backpack and I couldn’t resist to order mine right away. ( images below from a customer review, not actually mine )

As he has the same exact needs as I do, I am sure that this is the one I was looking for, and I can’t wait to get my life organized again by storing the stuff I use daily, on my backpack, and relying that whenever I need that thing, it will be there.
